Now, you don’t need to add ‘0’ before dialling STD number

If the task of adding prefix '0' or '+91' to a mobile phone number outside your home network annoys you, don't bother anymore.

A major obstruction in implementing full Mobile Number Portability (MNP) across India has been removed as several telecom operators have begun simplifying the process of dialling STD mobile numbers in the country.

Now, you will not have to add '0' or '+91' before dialling any STD number.

The full MNP will come into effect before July in full force and few telecom operators have already implemented it.
Earlier the Department of Telecom (DoT) had set the deadline for May 3, which was extended to July.

MNP allows users to change their telecom operator without changing their mobile number. But the full MNP would allow people to change their operator across circles, which was not the case before.

Previously, Telecom industry body COAI had sought extension of government's May 3 deadline for MNP, saying it needed more time to make technical changes to networks. This involved changing the National Numbering Plan (NNP), which the body said could take two months. While earlier operators would distinguish between local and STD numbers, now all numbers have the same dialling pattern.

The DoT had given a nod to recommendations of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on full MNP last year in November.
